Transparency around efficiency is essential, and is increasingly utilised to inform selection practices and ensure efficient vessels are adequately recognised and rewarded.
Shipowners benefit from the GHG Emissions Rating in various ways, including:
- increased transparency into the efficiency measures undertaken during design, build and operation of their respective fleet
- recognition and reward for investing in efficiency measures, and subsequent enhanced reputation as an owner
- reduced port fees at select ports who reward efficiency through port incentive programs, and
- financial institutions are beginning to offer improved financing rates to vessel owners with more efficient vessels in their fleet, and insurers offering lower insurance premiums.
Shipping companies that publically endorse their use of the GHG Rating include: Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, Carisbrooke Shipping, Fednav, Gearbulk Shipping, J. Lauritzen, KLCSM Ship Management, Laurin Maritime, Mastermind Shipmanagement Ltd, Odfjell and The China Navigation Company (Swire).
