Marine Risk Modeller

Location: Melbourne

Put your superior statistical & modelling skills to the test!

Challenging role with autonomy

An exciting opportunity now exists for an experienced risk modeller to put their superior statistical and modelling skills into practice. Reporting to the Senior Marine Risk Modeller, you will provide accurate and timely analytical and statistical support to the business, whilst also being responsible for the following duties/projects during your initial tenure:

  • Optimise RightShip's customised shipping risk algorithm, taking the recently launched Qi algorithm to the cutting edge
  • Perform statistical research to enhance RightShip's understanding of the key drivers of shipping risk
  • Use text mining to refine risk algorithms for specific casualty types, for example specific risk models for groundings or other maritime incidents
  • Contribute to analysis for direct data analysis clients, including business understanding, data understanding, data preparation, modelling and evaluation
  • Improve data quality using a range of predictive modelling tools including text mining

To be successful in this role you will require:

  • An Honours degree in a Statistical discipline (or working towards)
  • Knowledge of predictive modelling algorithms and statistics including GLMs.
  • Solid understanding of the Risk Management Process
  • Some knowledge of programming - languages widely used in statistics / computation such as R, Python, Perl and Matlab  - highly regarded
  • Familiarity with database besign and SQL - highly regarded
  • Understanding of text mining an advantage
  • Prior experience using SPSS Modeler and/or Tableau an advantage

A proven self-starter, you have concise written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain technical information to a non-technical audience. These attributes, coupled with your ability to deal with multiple conflicting deadlines and build effective working relationships with all stakeholders, will hold you in good stead for this role.

Sustainability Officer

Put your sustainability knowledge to the test!

Challenging role for proven self-starter

An opportunity exists for a Sustainability Officer to apply their sustainability and environmental knowledge in a progressive company. Reporting to the Sustainability Manager, you will provide environmental assessment and database management support to the business.

The key responsibilities of this position are:

  • Contribute to the ongoing management of the RightShip GHG Rating through data analysis
  • Provide background data and data analysis for use in customer presentations, research papers and customer queries
  • Collate, analyse and interpret data from ship owners/class societies/yards/third parties
  • Analyse and target relevant customer sectors using the GHG Rating
  • Research environmental policies/standards as required

To be successful in this role you will require:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 2-5 years' experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and experience
  • Knowledge of current environmental issues and relevant regulation
  • Strong database management skills including Excel and Tableau
  • Excellent client liaison skills evidenced by an ability to build relationships
  • Knowledge of the Maritime industry preferred, but not essential
  • Willingness to travel for work
