Terminal Questionnaire (TQ) required at the Port of Hay Point and Port Hedland for BHP Billiton

From Tuesday, 24 January 2012, every ship scheduled to enter the ports of Hay Point and Port Hedland will be required to submit an online Terminal Questionnaire (TQ), containing terminal-specific vessel information, before berthing. This process will help improve the safety and efficiency of port operations, benefiting vessel operators and terminal operators BHP Billiton.

Handy Size Dry Inspection Process Change

RightShip is committed to achieving with our customers a safer and cleaner maritime environment. We continually strive for improvements through research, analysis, and experience gained over time. We believe that inspection and physical validation of a ships condition and the ships application of management systems forms an important part of the risk management process.

To that end, effective from 01 October 2011 dry bulk handy size vessels in the range 8,000 dwt to 60,000 dwt, aged 18 years and above will require an annual RightShip inspection as part of the vetting program. This is a change from the current 25 year age trigger and brings the handy size vessels in-line with other RightShip dry bulk vessel size groups. There is a grace period from 01 October 2011 to 01 October 2012 for the implementation of this change.

In July 2011, the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) adopted mandatory measures to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from international shipping through amendments to MARPOL Annex VI Regulations. These amendments include application of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) which specificies minimum energy efficiency levels for new deliveries from January 2013.

RightShip has developed an Existing Vessel Design Index (EVDI™) and a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Rating to address the 60,000+ vessels currently in service, which emit over 1 billion tonnes of CO2 annually.
